And&nbsp;it&#8217;s&nbsp;great,&nbsp;it&#8217;s&nbsp;different than my normal life.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:44% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/roundupriverranch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/SC6-D2_Archery-Hawk-32-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13126 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/roundupriverranch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/SC6-D2_Archery-Hawk-32-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/roundupriverranch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/SC6-D2_Archery-Hawk-32-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/roundupriverranch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/SC6-D2_Archery-Hawk-32-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/roundupriverranch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/SC6-D2_Archery-Hawk-32-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/roundupriverranch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/SC6-D2_Archery-Hawk-32-18x12.jpg 18w, https:\/\/roundupriverranch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/SC6-D2_Archery-Hawk-32-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/roundupriverranch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/SC6-D2_Archery-Hawk-32.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Colin is\u00a0studying Health and Exercise Science at Colorado State University, and\u00a0had\u00a0heard of Roundup River Ranch from his guidance counselor.\u00a0Colin was inspired to volunteer due to his career interests in healthcare, and he wanted to see an environment outside of the traditional medical setting.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Ian first\u00a0volunteered for\u00a0Flying Horse Farms\u00a0before moving to Colorado, and\u00a0wanted to continue his involvement with the SeriousFun Children&#8217;s Network, leading\u00a0him to Roundup River Ranch. His\u00a0sister\u00a0passed away after\u00a0a misdiagnosed heart condition, and he wanted to provide support to campers and families who had similar experiences. He especially loved that Summer Camp includes siblings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cOur family&nbsp;went through what a lot of these families do,\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;Ian said.&nbsp;<strong><em>\u201cTo&nbsp;be just a small part of&nbsp;camp&nbsp;for these kids, especially the siblings\u2026 and knowing as a sibling what that feels like, and to get away and leave everything behind,&nbsp;is incredible.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Both&nbsp;were surprised at how&nbsp;quickly&nbsp;they&nbsp;found their place at&nbsp;camp.&nbsp;Ian&nbsp;loved&nbsp;hanging&nbsp;with&nbsp;the older&nbsp;campers&nbsp;at CROM&nbsp;-camp prom&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;and&nbsp;dancing freely during the Silent Disco.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0Colin\u2019s\u00a0favorite memory was at Archery, where the campers decided to combine their\u00a0skills with bows and paintbrushes. Each cabin\u00a0gave\u00a0a fun and kind surprise to\u00a0another cabin, and their\u00a0group\u00a0made bracelets for\u00a0the\u00a0Aspen Cabin.\u00a0That was their favorite part of camp \u2013 everyone was so inclusive,\u00a0and kindness was easily encouraged.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Roundup River Ranch invites many campers with serious diagnoses, and Ian and Colin were grateful to&nbsp;feel supported by camp and medical staff while they led their cabin.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cYou have&nbsp;so much&nbsp;help&nbsp;here, and not everything&#8217;s reliant on you if something goes wrong,\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;Colin noted.&nbsp;<strong><em>\u201cThere are so many systems in place, so many people to help you. It&nbsp;can be scary to think about these kids with these&nbsp;very serious&nbsp;diagnoses, but they are just kids at the end of the day.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To anyone considering\u00a0a volunteer\u00a0experience, their biggest piece of advice is to embrace\u00a0camp, and the campers will follow you.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cWhen&nbsp;you&#8217;re&nbsp;in this scenario, embrace the silliness \u2013 grab a costume from the costume closet, and just&nbsp;have a blast,\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>Ian said.<strong><em>&nbsp;\u201cBecause the kids see you doing it, and then they just follow suit.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last summer,\u00a0Ian\u00a0and Colin\u00a0volunteered\u00a0together\u00a0in the\u00a0Osprey Cabin.\u00a0They\u00a0bonded\u00a0as Cabin Leads, leaving their adult lives at the gate and leaning into\u00a0the magic of\u00a0camp.\u00a0 \u201cIt&#8217;s helped me kind of come &hellip;
