What makes Roundup River Ranch so extraordinary?

We make campers with life-altering diagnoses feel like ordinary kids. Giggling, laughing, conspiring, arrow-shooting, horseback-riding, art-creating kids. We help campers and their families enjoy the gift of extraordinarily joyful moments, lasting friendships, newfound courage, and memories that remain long after the last s’more is devoured.

Connected by a powerful
commitment to childhood.

We are part of the SeriousFun Children’s Network, a global community of medical specialty camps founded by Paul Newman. He believed that kids with serious illnesses needed a place to “kick back and raise a little hell.” And we couldn’t agree more.

Introducing one of our dedicated board members, Steve! 👋

Dr. Steve Petersen is an Orthopedic Surgeon who retired in 2018, to Gypsum, Colorado. Steve is the oldest of 5 boys who grew up in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, Glen Ellyn, Illinois. As a living donor transplant recipient, an important lesson in life is to treat your brothers well because you never know if you’ll need their kidney. He enjoys the many recreational activities that Colorado provides with his wife Gail and their Golden Retriever, Payton. His personal experience as both a transplant patient and having a grandson with a significant heart condition has enhanced his appreciation for the mission at the Roundup River Ranch.

A graduate of Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, and Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois, he performed his Orthopedic training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and a Shoulder-Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado, with Dr. Richard Hawkins. He was also selected by the American Shoulder and Elbow Society as a European Traveling Fellow. His career has included military service with the Army Medical Corps at Letterman Army Medical Center, as Director of the Orthopedic Residency Program. His career also included Orthopedic Academic positions at Wayne State School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan, and Johns Hopkins Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland. He retired in 2018 as Division Director of the Shoulder Service and Fellowship Director, at Johns Hopkins.

Thank you, Steve, for your passion and commitment to Roundup River Ranch! ❤️👏
Meet our newest Full-Time, Year-Round team member, Veronica! 🤩 She is joining our marketing team as the Marketing Coordinator, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have her onboard!

"I'm super grateful to be on a team that's main goal is to create joy and inclusivity. You belong here means a lot to me, and I'm thrilled it's our theme this year!" 🫶

Veronica was drawn to the mission of Roundup River Ranch, because she appreciates the way camp "encourages kids to step out of their comfort zones and try new things with 'challenge by choice.' We're all capable of so much more than we think, and learning that at a young age, regardless of your situation, is so important!" 👏

Her biggest takeaway from her time here so far? "There is so much joy and love here, you really feel it in the air. I appreciate how kids and adults can be themselves at Roundup, it makes the experience that much better." ❤️

As the Marketing Coordinator, Veronica is looking forward to capturing and sharing the joy of camp. "I help create media that reflects what Roundup is all about—adventure, smiles, and belonging! And hopefully, I help inspire families to try camp out or keep coming back! I'm most excited to capture smiles and fun every week this summer, whether it's on the challenge course or during no hands spaghetti dinner!" 📸

Her favorite guidepost is We're All Ears. 👂 "My grandma taught me the phrase, 'God gave you two ears and one mouth, so you need to listen twice as much as you speak.' The only way we can really connect and show we care for each other is to listen. Everyone has an interesting story to share, and it's important we hear them. Plus, my grandma is the best person in the world, so I take her words to heart."

Help us give Veronica a BIG Roundup River Ranch welcome, and be sure to say hello when you see her at camp! 👋
We love when @conationalguard’s High Altitude ARNG Aviation Training Site (HAATS) crew visits camp! 😍🚁
