Did you know that the term Spina Bifida comes from Latin and means "split spine"? It’s a type of neural tube defect (NTD) that occurs when a baby’s neural tube fails to develop or close properly. According to Spina Bifida Association, almost all people with Spina Bifida will have had at least 8 surgeries by the time they reach the age of 18 - some have many more. (With more than half of the most common brain and spine surgeries taking place before their 1st birthday.) 💛
Here at Roundup River Ranch, we love creating programming that allows campers who have Spina Bifida to experience all the Activities at camp, sometimes for the very first time. At camp, they also get to meet other campers with Spina Bifida, and build a special community of others who understand them and cheer them on through their journey! 🫶

Last weekend was filled with camp-sized smiles, LOTS of paint, silly costumes, and moments of camp magic that will last a lifetime. ❤️✨ We love seeing families make immediate connections that bring comfort and joy of knowing there are others on the same journey. The love and joy at Family Camp is what make these weekends so special! 🫶
In September, both Teen Club Online and Camp Club Online gathered for "Expressions of Joy"! 🤗 Each club was guided through making a “junk journal”. 📝 A junk journal is a space for holding mementos, turning trash into treasure, and having a personal space to express themselves & JOY. Campers had time to design the cover and an all about me page. The goal of this club was to guide campers in thinking about the small joys that are all around their homes and world. Week two of club, there was a scavenger hunt for joy, prompted with questions such as “something you are proud of”, “an item that reminds you of your family”, “something unique to you”. ❤️
Campers can continue to fill their journals with small pictures, receipts, fun paper materials, and anything reminding them of happy memories. They also received prompts to guide pages of their journal, such as “write a thank you letter yourself from a time you did something that was imperfect” and “illustrate your favorite song”. ✍️
We had such a great time embracing and expressing joy in our online programs in September! Don`t forget to sign up for November Clubs before the end of this month! 🤩
