Meet Camper Flora
Summer Camp 6: Lung, Severe Allergic, & Immune System Conditions
For Flora, Roundup River Ranch was a place where her creativity and personality could shine. Whether she was singing on stage, laughing with friends in her cabin, or trying something new, camp gave her the opportunity to express herself while building friendships that made every summer memorable.
Flora was able to attend Roundup River Ranch because of her medical journey with Microscopic Polyangiitis (MPA) Vasculitis. While camp was full of exciting activities, it was the people she met that made the biggest impact.
“They kind of have personalities similar to mine, but we still have all of our differences, and we just all celebrate each other,” Flora said about her new friends.
That sense of acceptance made camp feel different from anywhere else. In just a few days, Flora found herself surrounded by campers who understood one another, supported each other, and made everyone feel like they belonged.
Outside of Summer Camp, Flora loves theater, singing, and reading. She brought her love of performing to camp and even took the stage during Stage Night to perform a song for her fellow campers and staff.
Some of her favorite memories came from the simple moments shared with her cabin. One that always made her smile was when a cabinmate created a finger puppet, which quickly became the cabin’s unofficial mascot.
“She made a finger puppet named Wendy, and Wendy’s kind of like the cabin mascot now,” Flora said.
After experiencing all that camp had to offer, Flora hoped other campers would embrace camp just as she had. Her advice for anyone coming to Roundup River Ranch for the first time was simple:
“Just be yourself. You’ll make some amazing friends here who you’ll have inside jokes with and who you will laugh with.”
