LEAVE BEHIND THE SCRUBS. GET READY FOR THE SMILES.
The medical professionals who come to Roundup River Ranch often say that it is their very favorite week of the year. It is a unique time to witness kids they’re so passionate about helping in an entirely different healing atmosphere.
At camp, kids are joyfully kids – not patients. Outside the walls of the hospital, we get to bring the care to them, on their schedule, in their happy place. Our medical volunteers wear camp t-shirts, dance in tutus, give medicine while wearing silly hats, and find themselves laughing right along with the campers.

Roundup River Ranch is only possible because of the comprehensive, individualized medical support that is provided to each of our campers. We recruit and welcome a diverse group of medical professionals who have experience caring for children with the medical conditions we serve. Pediatric clinical experience is preferred, and eligibility to volunteer is determined following an interview with Roundup River Ranch medical staff.

We provide individualized medical care for each of our campers. We recruit provider, pharmacist, therapist and nurse volunteers with experience caring for children who have the medical conditions we serve. These professionals leave their lab coats and scrubs behind and join our medical team at camp. And while they may not “look” like providers or nurses when they’re swinging from a zipline, the truth is they are constantly focused on the needs and well-being of every camper.
Our approach is simple: kids come to camp to be kids, not patients. Medical care is provided on their schedule and in a supportive, joyful environment – often by volunteers wearing tutus or funny hats instead of scrubs.
Roundup River Ranch’s medical program is overseen by our year-round medical team and supported by highly trained nurses and providers who are experts in their respective fields. Being savvy about safety is a camp priority, knowing this Roundup River Ranch relies on volunteer physicians and nurses to provide additional medical support, distribute medicine, and provide one-on-one medical attention when needed. As a medical volunteer you will be fully immersed in camp, stationed at our medical facility, The Depot, and throughout camp to meet camper needs.
We have a variety of medical volunteer opportunities throughout the year. All medical professionals are welcome and encouraged to apply. For camper acuity purposes, there is a significant need for physicians, registered nurses, and pharmacists. Residential sessions last for a full week; campers are onsite for five days following a one-day volunteer orientation to start the week. Family Camp sessions last for one weekend; volunteers will be asked to arrive midday Friday and will be able to depart mid-day Sunday.
Yes! All volunteers, new and returning, attend an orientation or Volly-O, consists of multiple in-person training, and happens either the day before camper arrival (Summer Camp session) or the Friday before a Family Camp session. We will make sure that you are fully prepared and there’s always staff members available as a resource (as well as seasoned medical volunteers for support).
