Spurs Program Onsite

The Spurs Program is a two-week immersive experience for Camp alumni ages 18-21. It is held onsite during Summer Camp sessions, with an intersession break in the middle. Program highlights include reconnecting with camp and fellow alumni, enjoying classic camp activities, and developing valuable leadership and life skills. Spurs participants take part in traditional camp activities while also having the chance to design and lead their own camper activities . Participants are selected through a competitive application and interview process, with limited spots available.

Welcome to the Spurs Program for Roundup River Ranch Alumni!

The 2026 Spurs Program will be offered during Summer Camp sessions 5 and 6 (July 12 – 17 and 21 – 26). Applications will open on December 15th!

The Spurs Program is an exciting 2-week leadership experience, taking place onsite at Roundup River Ranch during Summer Camp. Designed for alumni ages 18-21, this immersive program combines the joy of camp with opportunities to develop leadership skills, foster independence, and step outside your comfort zone.

Program highlights include:

Reconnecting with fellow alumni and creating new camp memories
Giving back to the camp community
Building lifelong friendships and creating a strong alumni network
Developing valuable leadership and life skills

The Spurs Program offers a unique chance to have fun, grow, and contribute to the camp you love. We can’t wait to see you there!

Housing for the Spurs Program: Spurs will be housed onsite during the sessions. Housing is not provided for the break between sessions.

Participants will be selected based on eligibility and application and interview quality. The process will be competitive as spots are limited.

Spurs Program Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be diagnosed alumni of Roundup River Ranch
Due to limited space, siblings will not be eligible
Spurs must be 18 to 21 years of age for the duration of the 2-week program
If selected, participants are required to attend both weeks of the Spurs Program
Applicants must have good verbal and written communication skills
Applicants must be able to perform their own personal care, routine medical care, and self-transfers to-and-from mobility devices
Applicants must be socially, physically, and emotionally able and open to participate in group activities
Applicants are required to complete an interview. Please note, an interview will not be offered if eligibility criteria are not met
After acceptance or waitlist acceptance: ALL background checks must be completed by the deadline or participation will not be possible

Application & Interview Process

Applications will be submitted on Campsite, the same platform used for camp and Outreach program applications.

February 11th: Interview deadline
February 20th: Participant decisions sent
May 1st: Background check deadline

Please Note:

The application MUST be completed before an interview can be booked. After all application materials are submitted, your application will be reviewed. If you meet eligibility criteria, you will be emailed a link to book an interview.
There are limited spots in the Spurs Program, and the application and interview are competitive processes. Acceptance into the program is not guaranteed and is based on whether eligibility requirements are met and the quality of the applicant’s application and interview. There is a potential to be waitlisted for the program.
Roundup River Ranch will no longer be requiring the COVID vaccine for all campers, families, Spurs, staff, or volunteers. Because of the population of children we serve, we still strongly and highly recommend the COVID vaccine to protect yourself and our campers. Learn more.

How old do I have to be to participate in Spurs Program?

How do I apply for the Spurs Program?

Acceptance in the Spurs Program is based on meeting eligibility requirements and a competitive application and interview process. If you apply after spots are filled, you can still potentially be accepted onto a waitlist for the Spurs Program. If you are not accepted into the Spurs Program or Waitlist, you are welcome to reapply for next year’s session. Due to the competitive process and limited spots, applicants are selected based on if they are a good fit for the Spurs Program.

What should I wear for my Spurs interview?

What is the interview process for the Spurs Program like?

After you complete your application, you will be invited to do an interview. The interview will be online, and we will send you a link to book the time for your interview. You must complete all parts of your application and meet eligibility requirements before you are sent an interview link. It will be like a job interview, so we recommend a tidy room with good lighting and business casual attire. Please note, you will not be offered an interview if eligibility requirements are not met.

Can I volunteer the same year that I participate in the Spurs Program?

No, you will not be able to volunteer during the same camp season that you attend the Spurs Program. Some of the goals of the Spurs program are to transition alumni into adulthood and to transition from a camper role to a staff or volunteer role. After completion of the Spurs Program, you will be able to volunteer during next year’s camp season. For example, if you are a Spur in 2026, you will be eligible to volunteer in 2027.

Do I need to attend the Spurs Program to be eligible to volunteer or apply to be a staff member?

What are the eligibility requirements for the Spurs Program?

Applicants must be alumni of Roundup River Ranch and 18 to 21 years of age for the duration of the 2-week program.
Applicants must have good verbal and written communication skills.
Applicants must be able to perform their own self-care, routine medical care (ie: taking medications), and self-transfers to and from mobility devices.
Applicants must be socially, physically, and emotionally able and open to participate in group activities.
Applicants are required to attend both weeks of the Spurs Program.
Accepted participants are required to complete background checks per Colorado Child Care Licensing.

Participants are selected based on eligibility, application, and interview. It is a competitive process since spots are limited. If applicants are offered an interview, they must complete the interview. Please note that interviews are not offered if eligibility requirements are not met.

How many times can I participate in the Spurs Program?

You can participate in the Spurs Program once. The Spurs Program is a unique opportunity to have camp fun, while also learning new leadership and life skills. One of the goals of the program is to foster the transition into adulthood. Also, if you are unsure of if you are ready to volunteer/work for camp, or if you want to gain more camp leadership skills, then the Spurs Program is a great transition into these roles.
