Roundup River Ranch’s Annual “A Taste of Camp” Event on May 16 Offers Donors a Peek into the Magical Camp Experience
Celebrating this year’s camp theme, “Embrace Joy,” the Denver fundraising event will feature special guest Clea Newman Soderlund and honor Dr. Keith Weisz with the 2024 Superhero Award
DENVER (April 10, 2024) – Today, Roundup River Ranch, a nonprofit that offers children with life-altering diagnoses free, medically-supported camp programs and other opportunities to embrace joy, announced details about A Taste of Camp. The organization’s popular annual fundraising event gives donors and supporters a glimpse into the magic of camp. A Taste of Camp will take place on Thursday, May 16, at 6:00 p.m. Hosted at The Cable Center, attendees can expect an inspiring evening filled with camper performances and stories, a lively auction and paddle raise and a special appearance by Clea Newman Soderlund, the youngest daughter of legendary acting couple Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, who will present the 2024 Superhero Award.
“We are thrilled to ‘Embrace Joy’ with our Denver community. Funds raised from this event support our commitment to fostering pure, old-fashioned fun and celebrating the boundless joy of childhood through connection, independence, shared experiences and hope,” said Sarah Johnson, president and CEO of Roundup River Ranch. “Camp is continuing to expand beyond our physical campsite and reaching into campers’ homes, online spaces, hospitals and more, all thanks to the incredible support we receive at A Taste of Camp.”
During the evening, Keith Weisz, MD, pediatric emergency medicine physician at Children’s Hospital Colorado, will be presented with the 2024 Superhero Award. Every year, Roundup River Ranch selects an annual Superhero Award recipient, acknowledging individuals who have made a lasting, heroic difference at camp and embodies the spirit of compassion, resilience and service. Dr. Keith’s superhero journey began at Double H Ranch, a SeriousFun Camp, where he served as a camp counselor, igniting his passion for helping children with serious illnesses. Joining the fellowship program at Children’s Hospital Colorado in 2009, Dr. Weisz’s commitment to excellence in medical care and compassionate approach assists Roundup River Ranch in offering exceptional care to children at camp.
A Taste of Camp will feature a cocktail hour, evening program and dinner. Guests are encouraged to dress in Colorado cocktail attire. All proceeds from the event go toward creating free programs and serving thousands of children living with cancer, blood disorders, organ transplants and other rare and life-altering conditions.
“Receiving the 2024 Superhero Award is a profound honor, and I deeply value being part of this incredible community. From my own experience, I’ve witnessed how attending camp offers participants the chance to connect with peers who share similar challenges, fostering friendships that can span a lifetime,” said Dr. Keith Weisz. “Roundup River Ranch has made a life-changing impact in the lives of numerous children, and it fills me with joy to witness the remarkable transformation our campers undergo after a session at camp.”
