Help us welcome Kelly Campbell (camp nickname: RED), our new CAMP DIRECTOR! We are absolutely thrilled to welcome RED to the team!
RED was most recently the Camp Director at our sister camp, Over the Wall, in the UK! In October, she visited Roundup River Ranch and attended our final Family Camp of the year.
“When I arrived in October it felt like home and getting to participate in the final family camp, the energy, the love, and the excitement for the future all felt like an environment I wanted to be a part of. RRR has a rich history, and I can’t wait to be a part of it now and help guide it into the future.”
She has worked in the camp world since 2008 and we are excited to learn from her wealth of knowledge and experience!
“I started off working seasonally for the Girl Scouts at a camp in Virginia in 2008 and then moved to a Girl Scout council in Maryland and became the full-time director in 2015. I worked there until the end of 2021 which is when I made the jump into the SeriousFun Children’s Network and became the Camp Director for one of our sister camps in England. I worked there for two years helping them come back post-Covid and now am looking forward to getting back to camp in the U.S.”
RED is most excited about diving in to learn about RRR traditions, and speaking with the full-time staff, seasonal staff, volunteers, and campers to learn about their favorite traditions.
With her move back to the United States, RED is also looking forward to “Being able to visit family and friends a little easier. I’m excited to be moving to Colorado for the first time and getting to experience the outdoor adventure lifestyle the beautiful surroundings offer.”
Get to know RED through a few of her favorite camp things!
- Activity: Challenge Course
- Guidepost: Campers Are #1 AND Embrace Joy
- Camp Song: The Dinosaur Song
- Camp Accessory: Tutu!
- Camp Meal: Mac-N-Cheese, Chicken Nuggets, & Broccoli
- Color: Blue
- Arts & Crafts: Tie-Dye
RED explained that the Challenge Course is her favorite activity, because “It is an area of camp where you can have huge success as an individual and can also work together as a team. Both aspects are important in life outside of camp, plus the feel of the wind on your face as you go down the zipline is just cool. “
Choosing a favorite guidepost can be quite challenging, as each guidepost helps our team accomplish our mission. And sometimes your favorite is actually two, because they’re just that amazing!
“I feel like this is a tough one because all of the guideposts are special in their own way. The first one that came to mind was that Campers are #1 because they really are at the center of everything we do, all small and big decisions are focused on the impact on the campers. However, I think really my favorite guidepost is embrace joy. Camp is a magical place where we all just get to embrace joy, have fun, be silly, and make some lasting memories together. It is one part of camp that I really love.”
We are so happy to have RED on our team – to learn and grow with her as we continue to put campers first, and embrace joy!
“Camp is a magical place that allows campers of all ages to be who they are, not who society wants them to be, and I love seeing all campers realize their potential at camp with no cell phones, no social distractions just each other and I can’t wait till the 2024 season!!”
