The Camp

Our Campers: the heart and soul of everything we do.

Roundup River Ranch serves children ages 17 and under, who have been diagnosed with a serious illness, and their families. Campers come from the 11-state region of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, and Texas.

Each session is focused on a specific set of medical conditions so that campers are surrounded by others who understand what they are going through and can have shared experiences. This creates truly unique opportunities for friendships to form quickly and inhibitions to disappear. We not only provide week-long camp sessions for children, we also offer several family camps and some special sessions where siblings ages 17 and under are invited to come along to camp and join in the fun.

Banner celebrates an amazing day in the life of a child with a serious medical diagnosis at Colorado nonprofit free summer camp Roundup River Ranch

Know what’s most extraordinary about camp? How it makes kids with serious illnesses feel like “ordinary” kids.

Our campers are giggling, laughing, conspiring, art-making, arrow-shooting, canoe-paddling kids. That is both exhilarating and healing. Eye-opening and inspiring. Ordinary and extraordinary.

The truth is, our campers are sick and tired of being labeled as “sick.” They’re just kids who want to be kids. And that is precisely what every day (and s’more-roasting night) is all about. (And of course, it’s all always free of charge!)

Not only are we nestled in one of the most beautiful places in the Colorado mountains (see awe-inspiring photos right here), but we’re also a place that has a real honest-to-goodness magical quality about it. Campers discover that they are more courageous than they thought, more capable than they imagined, and more blissfully “ordinary” than they had realized.

Thousands of campers experience Roundup River Ranch each year through a variety of programs onsite and offsite; Summer Camp, Family Camp, Camp Online, Joy, Delivered, Seacrest Studios, Alumni Programming, and Outreach Events. We welcome campers from across Colorado and an 11-state region. That makes for a huge number of potential new BFFs!

Our intentional programming philosophy means campers choose what they want to tackle, push themselves to try new things, and celebrate with all of camp for their accomplishments. Read more of the feel-great details here.

Here’s just a sampling of the onsite activities that take place at Roundup River Ranch:

• Canoes, beautiful canoes.
• A fishing lake. (Catch, wish, and release please)
• Archery (How’s your aim?)
• An Art Yurt. (You have to see it to believe it)
• A Discovery Yurt. (So much to learn and discover)
• No-Hands Spaghetti Dinner. (time to get messy!)
• Songs, dancing, Stage Night, ridiculous costumes, star-gazing, cabinmates, fantastic counselors, and so, so, so much more.
